国際展示場で行われている『第1回バラエティーギフト国際商談展』(www.giftex.jp)のスロベニア（旧ユーゴスラビア）の小さなデザイン会社のブースであさって土曜日まで通訳をやっています。
通訳としての仕事はそれほど頻繁にないものの（まだ初日で来場者がそれほど多くないのと、やはりバイヤーさん達は英語が出来る人も多いからかな？）自分たちの自信作を持参してブースを設けて、来場者にいろいろと説明する、という
そのプロセスを見るのがとても楽しい。私たちのブースの向かいは中国、隣はイタリア、斜め前はアイスランドからの出展社。
この仕事を紹介してくれた友達はスイスの会社でボールペンを展示しているブースにいました。ちょこっと顔を出してみると、気のいい営業部長さんがボールペンをくれました。ヤッタ。
私が担当しているデザイン会社の女性はとてもいい人で、お客さんが来ない時はいろんな話をしています。ブースを訪ねて来たガタイのいいロシア人っぽいおじさんが、実はスロバニア駐日大使だったりして驚いたり（笑）結構楽しいです。アイスランドのデザイナーの一人が、祖父が生前やっていた中国の切り紙のようなデザインのゴム製テーブルクロスを展示していたので思わず話しかけてみたりもしました。
初日の今日は２人とも”ヒールで一日中立ちっ放し”でやられました。
彼女の許可が下りたら、明日写真を撮ってくるのでまたアップします。とってもユニーク且つシンプルなデザインの雑貨はとてもオシャレで、某有名デパートのバイヤーさんなんかも名刺を置いて行ったので、そのうち店頭に並ぶかも。
そうなったら嬉しいなぁ。
友達が言っていたように、通訳に対するトラウマが無くなりました。
これなら私にも出来る！
明日はヒールのない靴で参戦。
I'm taking an interpreting job at a trade show called GIFTEX (www.giftex.co.jp) until Saturday. I'm interpreting for a small Slovenian design company. Today was first day and was not too busy: there should be more people coming tomorrow and Saturday. It is interesting to see people bring their designs and products from all over the world to this exhibit and talk to people. The booth next to ours is from Italy, and the one across from us is from Iceland. One of the designers at the Icelandic booth creates something quite similar to what my granddad did when he was alive, so I went over there and talked to her.
I also went to a Swiss booth, which my friend was interpreting for. The sales manager of the Swiss company brought pens to introduce. I went there to say "hi" and he gave me one of his pens ;-)
Outside of standing in heels all day, it is very interesting and quite fun. One time, a tall, well-buit middle-aged man came over to our booth. He was actually the Slovenian ambassador! haha
If it's allowed, I'll take pictures of the products and upload them here tomorrow. I really like their design: it's simple but unique and warm. A sales representative from a famous Japanese department store visited us and left his business card so one day we might see their products there. That would be wonderful.
I had fear for interpreting because of my previous job but this is something I can do, and it gives my confidence back a little. I'm glad my friend asked me to do this job and I hope I'll have fun at work tomorrow and Saturday!
